Savory Spice Rub Gift with Recipe and Free Printables

Here is an excellent Spice Rub recipe called Emeril's Essence Creole Seasoning that is delicious on meats and any other savory foods.

Emeril's Essence Creole Seasoning Recipe:

Ingredients

• 2 1/2 tablespoons paprika
• 2 tablespoons salt
• 2 tablespoons garlic powder
• 1 tablespoon black pepper
• 1 tablespoon onion powder
• 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
• 1 tablespoon dried leaf oregano
• 1 tablespoon dried thyme

Instructions

Combine all ingredients thoroughly and store in an airtight jar or container.
Yield: about 2/3 cup

Supplies needed to make decorative gift jar filled with Spice Rub:

Upcycled Spice Jar or Small Jelly Jar

Kitchen Funnel (available at Dollar Store)

Measuring Spoon Set (available at Dollar Store)

Printer, Paper, Cardstock

Jute, Twine, or String (found mine for a dollar at Big Lots)

Cotton Fabric

Clear Tape (wide) (available at Dollar Store)

Scissors

Index Cards

Lay your jar lid down on your fabric and cut a circle large enough to cover the edges of the lid and drape down nicely below the area where you'll tie it on with your jute rope or twine. Set aside. Print your label, cut it out, and tape it onto your jar with the wide tape.  Shrink recipe card down to a size just a bit smaller than your index cards. Print your recipe card on your paper and cut it out.  Neatly write or type your recipe on the card.  Using your wide tape, tape the index card to the recipe card. The tape works like a laminating machine, but is more affordable.  Shrink and print your garlic gift tag and write your To: and From: and personalize it. Laminate it with your tape, too.  Punch a hole in the gift tag and the recipe card.   I have both the gift tag and the recipe card with all the text you'll need on pdf, and as soon as I learn how to share documents properly, I'll add them to this post:) Cut two 8" lengths of your jute.  Attach one to the gift tag and one to the recipe card as shown in the photo, or just any way you like to do it.  Cut one length of jute that is long enough to wrap around your jar twice, plus enough left over to tie into a nice bow.  Using your funnel, fill your decorated jar with spice rub mix.  Screw on lid tightly.  Hold fabric circle over lid, wrap jute around fabric and jar lid twice, and tie snugly in a nice bow or knot.  Slip your gift tag and recipe card jute through the jute on the jar and tie snugly.  

Our YW Camp was the week before Father's Day this year.  The YW made these for their Dads for Father's Day.  I love those girls and leaders so much!!  FYI we made these outside on a campground table in the Davis Mountains State Park in far west Texas.  We had a lot of fun making them, and the Dads enjoyed their gifts, too!

I hope you enjoy this Emeril's Essence Creole Seasoning .  Honestly, the first time I used it was for a perfect picnic chicken recipe.  I've since used it on burgers and lots of other foods. I'll share the chicken recipe with you soon!

100 Years of YW Camp Celebration

YW Camp Day One

As you read this about our epic Young Women's Camp experience this year, you may think I am bragging a little.  I cannot take credit for the wonderful experiences. But much credit is due to our excellent YW group of girls, YW leaders, and priesthood leaders.

How do you celebrate 100 years of YW Camp?  With a birthday party, of course.  What is the perfect place and time to have the birthday party?  How about up in the mountains of New Mexico.  Specifically, the scenic picnic area at the entrance of Carlsbad Caverns.  Do it just around sunset just before you walk down to the amphitheater to watch the bats emerge from the caverns.  

Hot pink cupcakes on elegant cut glass cake stands, tiger stripe napkins and fans,  and jeweled tiaras with treats.

Can you really take 15 YW and leaders 500 miles across Texas and New Mexico in one day, set up camp at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas, drive back to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico's Chihuahuan desert, eat dinner, celebrate the YW birthday with a party, and watch the bats emerge from the caverns all in one day?  If you are doing God's work for His precious daughters, yes you can.

Yep, our YW Prez RB has this amazing friend BC.  BC lives in New Mexico.  She actually drove quite a ways from her home near Hobbs to bring us pizzas, tissue paper flowers, happy birthday garland, hot pink frosted cupcakes on beautiful cut glass cake stands, tiger stripe napkins and paper fans, and even goodie bags with purple jeweled tiaras and candy for each girl.  What a wonderful example of friendship and love she was for us all.  She even gave a spiritual message at the end of our little celebration.

If I tried to drive down the street to my neighbor's house with a bunch of cupcakes, they'd all take turn upside down and look terrible by the time I made it there.  I really don't know how BC managed to pull this off.  Sheer talent I assume. I know our girls were really surprised and happy when they saw the food and decorations.

Is there any more picturesque setting for a YW Camp 100th Birthday Party?  I think not.

This diverse group of girls are beautiful inside and out.  I am so privileged to work with them.

I think hot pink, zebra stripes, blue sky, and desert vegetation accent each other quite nicely, don't you?

Even driving or riding 500 miles, setting up tents, and driving/riding another hour or so to Carlsbad couldn't dampen our spirits.  We had a wonderful time.  The YW leaders are wearing kiwi green shirts that have Arise and Shine Forth printed on the front.  Yes, the leaders decided to buy matching shirts in different colors, one color for each day.  Monday was green shirt day.  I love RB, BS, DS, CC, and DP.  Which one is me?  I'm wearing the cowboy hat, of course.

This six foot tall native Chihuahuan Desert plant called Ocotillo is visually stunning.  With the gnarled and rugged appearance, I think it would make a lovely focal point in an arid xeriscape garden.

Yep, it was a very long day.  The pizza and cupcakes were a welcome surprise for everyone. 

Every young woman is special.  Each has a divine nature.  The tiaras should remind them of how special they are.

FYI, look for more blog posts about our incredible YW Camp.  Day Two they took the Carlsbad Caverns tour.  Day Three they climbed Guadalupe Peak.  Day Four they moved camp to the Davis Mountains and toured McDonald Observatory.  Day Five they toured historic Fort Davis and swam in the San Solomon Springs pool at Balmorhea State Park.  I told you it might sound like I was bragging.  No, not at all.  To quote an old western movie line, "No brag, just fact."

Summer Hats Blend Fashion and Function

A summertime visit to SeaWorld with my adorable granddaughter TINKERBELL and her aunt, my lovely daughter PUMPKIN.  This is how I spell summer fun.  They look so cute in those sweet summery white hats! What fun things are your planning for this summer?  Anybody hat shopping yet?

Hats don't normally stay atop TINKERBELL's head very long.  But when she saw that her aunt was wearing a hat too, well she decided that to keep it on for a little while.  What do you do to encourage your kiddos to wear their hats?


Hats are a good idea for summer outings.  Choose a cotton or straw hat with a nice brim.  It is a stylish, smart way to blend fashion and function.  You'll be cool, cute, and protected from the sun.
